Josey Hutchins, DVM
Attending Veterinarian
Dr. Josey Hutchins grew up in Grenada, Mississippi, and is a proud double graduate of Mississippi State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 2014 followed by her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2018. After veterinary school, she completed a small animal rotating internship in San Antonio, Texas, before spending nearly five years practicing small animal medicine in Memphis, Tennessee. In 2023, she and her family relocated to Hoover, Alabama, where she currently practices full-time at Chelsea Animal Hospital while also serving families with Compassionate Crossings.
Josey and her husband, Drew—another proud Mississippi native—live in Birmingham's Ross Bridge community with their two energetic little boys. Their Golden Retriever, Neely, has earned the unofficial title of "Most Patient Family Member," happily tolerating every hug, game, and adventure the boys can dream up. Although they recently had to say goodbye to their beloved cat, Ollie, he will always hold a special place in their family's heart and is lovingly featured in Dr. Josey's photo. When she manages to find a few spare moments, Josey enjoys reading, playing tennis, and traveling with her family. These days, though, life mostly consists of snack requests, bedtime stories, and cheering from the sidelines of whatever adventure her boys are on next.
While Dr. Josey continues to love the relationships and variety that come with general practice, she has developed a special passion for helping families navigate one of the hardest days of pet ownership with compassion and dignity. She believes every pet deserves a peaceful farewell in the comfort of home, surrounded by the people, familiar sights, sounds, and smells they love most. It is a privilege she never takes for granted to help families create calm, loving final moments and guide them through saying goodbye with kindness, empathy, and respect.
