Dr. Kathy Toomey grew up in Jackson, Mississippi, and made her way to Baton Rouge to attend Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine (Class of 2004—Geaux Tigers!). She’s now a practicing partner at Weatherly Animal Hospital in Alabaster, Alabama, where she loves caring for dogs and cats.
She lives in Hoover with her husband James, their three teenage daughters (send coffee), a retired greyhound, three cats—including a three-legged one affectionately named iLean—and a bearded dragon who rules the house.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Toomey can usually be found curled up with a good book (or in several book clubs at once), planning her next travel adventure, or tackling a jigsaw puzzle like it’s a competitive sport. She’s also a proud soccer, theatre, and horse show mom—which means she’s mastered the art of being in three places at once and considers dinner anywhere with a drive-thru a gourmet experience.
As a member of the Jefferson County Veterinary Medical Association, Dr. Toomey is committed to lifelong care for pets. She has a special heart for end-of-life care, and considers it an honor to help animals and their families find peace, comfort, and dignity in the final stages of life.
