Dr. Virginia "Ginny" Jones grew up in Ocoee, Florida, before earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in 2017. After graduation, she practiced small animal medicine in Maryland before relocating to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, when her husband accepted a faculty position at The University of Alabama.
Since moving to Alabama, Dr. Ginny has enjoyed caring for pets in a variety of veterinary settings, including general practice, emergency medicine, and urgent care. She currently practices full-time as a small animal veterinarian in Northport, where she values the lifelong relationships she builds with both her patients and the families who love them.
When she's not caring for patients, life at home is wonderfully full. Dr. Ginny and her husband share their home with three dogs—a wise senior Australian Cattle Dog mix, a beloved "foster fail" hound mix (because some fosters have other plans), and an energetic Border Collie who ensures there's never a dull moment. They also have two Sphynx cats who are absolutely convinced they're dogs, along with a flock of chickens and honeybees on their small hobby farm. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, running with her Border Collie, dock diving, making pottery, and volunteering with the local animal shelter, where she helps meet the tremendous need for homeless animals in the community.
For Dr. Ginny, some of the most meaningful moments in veterinary medicine happen during a family's final act of love for their pet. Throughout her own life, she has always chosen to say goodbye to her beloved companions at home because she believes that home is where pets feel safest, most comfortable, and most at peace. Those experiences inspired her passion for providing in-home euthanasia, giving families the opportunity to share a peaceful, love-filled goodbye in the place their pets know best.
Dr. Ginny considers it a true privilege to walk alongside families during one of life's most difficult moments. She is honored to serve the Tuscaloosa community through Compassionate Crossings and is committed to helping every family experience a farewell filled with compassion, dignity, and peace.
